The Story of the SS Freedom
The SS Freedom project in Cherokee County began as a vision to create a welcoming space for boating enthusiasts and newcomers alike, uniting the community around the love of water and recreation.
Spearheaded by local advocates with a passion for inclusivity, the initiative set out to break down barriers to accessibility in boating activities, ensuring that everyone could experience the joy of being on the water. Over the last few months, the project has grown through tireless volunteer efforts, community support, and partnerships with various organizations, highlighting the strength and resilience of Cherokees coming together for a common goal.
The SS Freedom serves not only as a vessel but as a beacon of hope and unity, reflecting the spirit of a community dedicated to enhancing lives through shared experiences on the water.
The SS Freedom project stands as a testament to the unwavering spirit of Cherokee County, a place where the love of water and community intertwine to create unforgettable memories.
From its humble beginnings, the project has blossomed into a vibrant hub that celebrates diversity and fosters connections among boating enthusiasts of all abilities.
With every splash of the oar and every laugh shared on the deck, the SS Freedom has transformed into more than just a boat; it embodies a collective dream where laughter echoes across the water and friendships are forged under the sun.
This initiative has not only revitalized our waterways but has also strengthened the bonds between neighbors, offering a welcoming embrace to newcomers and long-time residents alike. Our hope is that the joy of boating is a shared experience for generations to come.

The Importance of Community Involvement
About Wildlife Action of Georgia
Wildlife Action of Georgia is a beacon of hope for wildlife conservation. As a private, non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) grassroots organization, we are dedicated to conservation, education, and responsible stewardship of our natural resources. Since 1983, we have been committed to preserving Georgia’s wildlife habitats and educating our community on the importance of conservation. Our work has already made a significant impact, and with your support, we can do even more.
Located on the shore of Lake Allatoona, our Resource Education Center provides hands-on programs that encourage people of all ages to engage with nature. From feeding deer and installing nesting boxes to teaching responsible hunting and fishing practices, we empower individuals to “Put Back More Than We Take.”

Our partnerships with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and local schools are not just collaborations, they are a testament to the power of community engagement. Together, we enhance outdoor education, environmental preservation, and most importantly, we inspire others to join us in our mission.
