The SS Freedom project is dedicated to constructing a handicap accessible boat, a collaborative effort by Wildlife Action of Georgia and the vibrant community of Woodstock and surrounding areas. Our mission is to ensure that everyone, regardless of physical ability, can experience the tranquility and adventure of being on the water. Whether it’s a veteran who has served our country or a civilian facing life’s challenges, we want to provide a place where they can feel empowered, included, and truly free. Our community has always been our foundation, and through this project, we’re not just building a boat—we’re building moments of joy, healing, and togetherness. Because when we come together to lift each other up, we all rise with the tide.
The purpose of S.S. Freedom (Adventure For All) is so wholly aligned with our mission at BRX Main Street Warriors and my personal value system, we just had to get behind this — and commit to staying involved going forward.
This is an ongoing effort to bring the joy of outdoor experiences to everyone — including those among us with mobility challenges. We are so blessed to be partnering with Wildlife Action Of Georgia, and thrilled to see the Cherokee Business Community step up to make this dream a reality.
[I] feel like I’m actually doing something for the community, doing the right thing for everybody, trying to help everybody else struggling in this world. And so far it’s just coming along very amazing.
I’m here just as a volunteer. I like helping out. Give me a chance, I recently retired, to apply some of the skill sets that I’ve developed over the years working in various aspects of the industry, commercial property management and maintenance and stuff.
I just came out here to lend a hand and maybe a little bit of insight from all those years of experience to see if I can help lead and guide and be a mentor, if you will, to some of these guys out here.
I’m learning a lot and I’m getting to do something productive that’s going to help out veterans in need and make their lives better. So I’m excited about that and excited about the opportunities here and can’t wait to see how it looks when we get done with it.
